Sustainability at ACU

We’re all on God’s Earth together, and Abilene Christian University is doing its part to conserve energy and resources on our little corner of the planet. With an average energy reduction of 20% and our community recycling nearly 54 tons of plastic, cardboard and newspaper, ACU is adding some green to our purple.

ACU Green’s mission is to:

  • Promote a culture of sustainability and sustainable practices
  • Promote prudent stewardship of resources
  • Ensure that future generations of ACU students can enjoy God’s creation

When you arrive on campus, you’ll see many green initiatives in action and many others are behind-the-scenes. Our sustainability efforts include conserving energy with efficient HVAC, plumbing and lighting systems and saving on fuel by using electric carts on campus rather than full-size vehicles.

Bee Campus

Bee Campus USA

Our campus continues to foster an ongoing dialogue to raise awareness of the role pollinators play in our communities and what each of us can do to provide them with healthy habitat. After all, one in three bites of food we eat is courtesy of insect pollination.

Feral Cats

Feral Cat Initiative

The Feral Cat Initiative involves humanely capturing cats, neutering and vaccinating them, then returning them to campus. More than 100 cats have been spayed and neutered since the program began four years ago. About 70 "wild" cats make campus their home.

Tree Campus

Tree Campus USA

ACU has been recognized as a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the third straight year. We continue making a commitment to planting and maintaining our trees to help reduce the amount of energy our campus needs to generate.
