Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders
More than 40 million people in the United States have some type of communication disorder. The inability to convey one’s thoughts and feelings can take an emotional toll. The field of communication disorders is dedicated to the complexities of and science behind how we communicate - and to the care and treatment of patients, from birth to elderly, who need our help.
In this program, you’ll learn about communication processes such as normal language development, speech sound development, anatomy, physiology, and audiology.
This pre-professional undergraduate degree prepares you to pursue a graduate degree in speech-language pathology or audiology. You’ll also be able to seek job opportunities in a variety of medical and treatment centers after completing your undergraduate degree.
This degree prepares students with the prerequisites required by graduate programs in order to meet the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification standards.
Meet the Dean
Dr. Joey Cope is Dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies at Abilene Christian University. He oversees all of the online undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs. He also serves as Associate Vice President for Academics and as the Associate General Counsel for the ACU Dallas Campus.
Joey received his Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications from Texas Tech University and his Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University School of Law. He earned a Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the Pepperdine University School of Law.

Admission Requirements
ACU’s online undergraduate programs are intended for non-traditional students interested in gaining a bachelor’s degree in an online modality.
To be considered for admission, students:
- Must be out of high school for at least four years.
- Must complete an “Online Undergraduate Program” application accompanied by a non-refundable processing fee.
- Must provide official transcripts of all previous academic work.
- Are not required to submit ACT or SAT test scores.
Students must meet specific program requirements after 45 credit hours to continue into upper division coursework.
